. RECPDCL transfers Tumkur-II transmission project to GR Infra

Tumkur-II REZ Power Transmission Limited is a project-specific Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) that was recently handed to GR Infraprojects Limited (GRIL) by REC Power Development and Consultancy Limited (RECPDCL), a fully owned subsidiary of REC Limited, a Maharatna CPSU under the Ministry of Power. An important turning point in the development of India’s power transmission infrastructure was reached with the official transfer, which took place in Gurugram. In front of top representatives from RECPDCL, GRIL, and the Central Transmission Utility of India Limited (CTUIL), TSC Bosh, CEO of RECPDCL, formally turned over the SPV to Saurabh Kaushik, Head of Business Development & Strategy at GR Infraprojects Limited.

Through a Tariff-based Competitive Bidding (TBCB) procedure, GR Infraprojects Limited (GRIL) was able to get the rights to serve as the project’s Transmission Service Provider (TSP). As the Bid Process Coordinator, RECPDCL oversaw and organized this procedure. The project is a vital part of India’s expanding renewable energy sector and is scheduled to be implemented on a Build, Own, Operate, and Transfer (BOOT) basis. When finished, it will increase the state of Karnataka’s capacity for power evacuation, making it easier to transmit electricity produced in renewable energy zones.

The project entails building a 400/220 kV pooling station close to Tumkur, Karnataka, with four transformers, each with a 500 MVA capacity. Long-distance electrical transmission will be greatly aided by this pooling station. In order to link the pooling station to the current grid infrastructure and increase the transmission capacity and dependability of the area, the project also included the construction of a 400 kV transmission line that is 27.2 km long. In order to assist the state meet its increasing power demands and encourage the integration of clean energy into the national grid, the transmission line and related infrastructure will guarantee the effective transport of electricity from renewable energy projects situated in and around Tumkur.

Within 24 months after the handover date, this large-scale infrastructure project is expected to be finished. In addition to improving Karnataka’s electrical infrastructure, the project’s full completion will help India meet its larger goals of energy security and the shift to sustainable, low-carbon energy. The Tumkur-II project highlights India’s commitment to achieving its renewable energy objectives while addressing the rising demand for power nationwide by enabling the seamless transfer of renewable energy from one of the nation’s major Renewable Energy Zones (REZ).

GRIL’s participation in this major power transmission project further demonstrates the company’s expanding infrastructure development capability. GR Infraprojects Limited has proven its ability to carry out large-scale, technically challenging projects by diversifying its portfolio over the years from road building to power and transmission projects. With this new endeavor, GRIL hopes to establish itself as a significant player in the infrastructure space and increase its presence in the power transmission industry.

Through increased power supply dependability, economic growth, and an improvement in the general standard of living for locals, the project’s full completion will also have a significant positive impact on Tumkur and the neighboring regions. It is anticipated that the project would create jobs during the building phase and provide long-term advantages by supplying dependable power, which will boost regional economic activity and industrial expansion.

All things considered, the Tumkur-II REZ Power Transmission project is an important step in strengthening India’s infrastructure for renewable energy, opening the door for further developments in the field, and assisting the nation’s shift to cleaner energy sources.
